Mr.RooseveltandIbothpromisethepeopleinthepaignthatifwewereelected,wewouldkeepthistryoutofwaruacked.Mr.Rooseveltwasreeledthissolemnpledgeforhim,Iknowwillbefulfilled,andIknoeopledesirehimtokeepitsacred.
Sinber5,Ihavereceivedthousandsandthousaers,asamatteroffasofthousandsofthem,Ihavepersreatportionofthesemessages.Iamprofoundlytouched.TheyallpartsofourdfromallkiheyCatholidProtestants,Jewsands,coloredpeopleandwhitepeople.Theyworkersandfarmersanddbusinessmen;menandwomenofalltheoakeupourAmerilife.Alloftheselettersandtelegrams,almostwithoutex,urgethatthecausethatwehavebeenfightingforbe.Ihusiasmforourcause,youfouhousandsanizations,theyareyanizations,financedbyyouaedbyyou.Itisveryappropriateforyoutouethemifyoufeelsoined.IhopeyoudouetheItisnot,horiatetouetheseanizationsinmyname.Idonotwantthisgreatcausetobeweakenedbyevenasemblanypersonaladvaoanyindividual.Ifeeltoodeeplyaboutitforthat.1944willtakecareofitself.
Itisoftheveryessenybeliefthatdemocracyisfruitfulofleadership.Iwanttoseeallofusdedicateourselvestotheprinciplesforwhiyfightforthoseprincipleshasjustbegun,IshalladvocatethemiureasardentlyandastlyasIhavei.Asilsononcesaid,"IwouldratherloseihatIknowsomedaywouldtriumphthantotriumphiIknowsomedaywouldfail."
